GENESEO, N.Y. -- Houghton men's soccer had a 1-0 lead and victory in its sights, but Geneseo scored twice in the final 14 minutes to escape with a 2-1 Empire 8 win on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss all but eliminates Houghton from an Empire 8 postseason opportunity.

>> The Highlanders withstood the Geneseo attack in the first half, as the hosts posted a 10-1 advantage in shots over the game's first 45 minutes.
>> The Knights would put another six shots toward the Houghton net over the first 22 minutes of the second stanza, but it was the Highlanders who would strike first. Alex Kalivoda put Houghton up 1-0 in the 74th minute with an unassisted goal.
>> The lead was short-lived, however, as the hosts pulled even just three minutes later.
>> It would be another 10 minutes before either team registered a shot, but this one for the Knights found its way past Houghton keeper Sam Carpenter and pushed the Knights to the win.
