HOUGHTON, NY – The Hartwick Hawks pounded out 47 kills in only three sets, ending the Houghton Highlanders six-game winning streak in straight sets.
 
Hartwick opened the first set with 14-4 lead and never looked back, amassing 15 kills on a .480 attack percentage.
 
Set number two brought more of the same, as the Hawks again jumped out to a sizable, 15-5, lead, continuing to hit at an impressive .367 clip in a 25-12 win.
 
The Highlanders refused to go quietly, showing some fight in the third set.  Houghton battled back from an early deficit, eventually claiming their first lead of the match, 19-18, on a kill by Alexa Belanger.
 
After Hartwick reclaimed the lead, an Emma Cole kill brought the Highlanders back within a point, 21-20, but the Hawks quickly won four of the final five points, handing Houghton their first Empire 8 loss of the season.

>> In addition to snapping the Highlanders win streak, the Hawks also ended Lilly Bentley's six-game double-digit kill streak.  Bentley managed only 12 attacks, but turned five of them into kills, for a .333 attack percentage.
 
>> Belanger led the Highlanders offense with seven kills on 15 attacks. 
 
>> Logan Baer posted 15 assists for Houghton.

Houghton returns to the Nielsen Center on Tuesday, October 22^nd when they will host the Lycoming Warriors at 7:00 p.m.  The Highlanders have won the last three meetings between the teams, including last season's matchup at Lycoming, 3-2.
