Brewster Re-Breaks 60m Record, Belanger Wins Triple Jump at Highlander Invitational

HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton track & field teams hosted an invitational with seven total teams in attendance. Local teams, such as Alfred University, Mansfield, Daemen, St. John Fisher were in attendance, with two out of region teams SUNY Delhi and Messiah making the trip. In their first meet back after Christmas break the Highlanders saw six top 3 performances at the meet, and many personal best performances. Results can be found here.

"I've really enjoyed having two weeks of training coming back from break, rather than competing the first weekend we are back. It already feels like we've been back for awhile, and are in a rhythm. I felt like a smaller meet like this was a great way to open up. We saw a little bit of everything in regards to high levels of grit, busting the rust in race strategy, and figuring out steps and marks, etc. I really enjoy working through these things, and seeing the athletes process it all. When you have a supportive team environment, little frustrations sort of take care of themselves. The future it bright," commented Coach Hager after the meet.

Highlights of the women's team were several runner-up finishes including Noelle Linenfelser in the mile (5:29.20, #10 all-time), Tori Brewster re-setting her school record in the 60m (7.83, #2 all-time, NCAA #30) and 200m (26.48, #2 all-time), and Madison Palmer in the shot put (11.42m) and weight throw (14.02m). Freshman Sarah Coddington also had a great day in the sprints, getting big personal bests in the 60m (8.47) and 200m (27.97).

Highlights of the men's team starts off with Avery Belanger winning the triple jump competition in 13.06m, his second best indoor performance. Amos Bixler ran a personal best in the mile (4:33.38) for 6th place, which is also 6th in the Empire 8 this year, and followed that with another 6th place finish in the 800m (2:05.73). Caleb Kasper was just behind Amos in the mile in 7th place (4:35.40).

The track & field teams will be back in action on 1/26 at RIT.
