ROCHESTER, NY – The Houghton University track and field teams traveled to the University of Rochester on Saturday to compete in a large invitational. Needless to say, the weather conditions were all but normal. Some of the meet certainly operated under warm, sunny conditions, but random spurts of hard rain and wind made the event unpredictable. Nonetheless, the teams competed hard, and well.
Highlights for the women were
Amanda Burrichter and
Rachel Domaracki running personal bests in the 800m and 1500m, respectively, in 2:27.46 and 5:02.80. In the same regard, Freshmen
Noelle Linenfelser and
Kyra Binney both ran personal bests in their 800m and 1500m races, in 2:30.63 and 5:17.73. Abby Nuzzo finished 7
th in the Javelin in 28.60m. With the high jump mats being blown off the track outdoors,
Hayden Williamson adapted for a 4
th place finish in the High Jump, on a soft, turf, indoor surface.
The men saw two top 10 all-time performances in
Malachi Yeager and
Brennan Lewandowski. Yeager qualified for finals of the long jump, and hit a personal best mark of 6.67m. Lewandowski fought the wind to run a slight personal best in the 400m of 52.34.
Evan Kurtz ran his 2
nd fastest 200m race ever in 23.20, and J.J. Eustace broke 2:00 for the second time in his career to finish in 1:59.30 in the 800m race.
The Highlanders are back in action on 4/29 at the Cardinal Classic hosted by St. John Fisher College. This will be their last regular season meet before the Empire 8 Championships.
