Houghton men's tennis finished out their last weekend of regular season play sweeping both the Alfred University Saxons on Friday and the St. John Fisher University Cardinals on Saturday 9-0. The Highlanders finished out their season with an overall record of 13-6 and a perfect 8-0 record in Empire 8 Conference play. In reward for their stellar play, the Highlanders hold the #1 seed and will be the host site for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament next weekend. 

The Highlanders actually finished 10-0 against E8 teams, but since Medaille was unable to complete their conference schedule, those two wins did not count as E8 matches.

Houghton will take on either Utica or Alfred in the semi-final this coming Friday at 1 p.m. The #2 seed, Nazareth, will take on the #3 seed St. John Fisher in the opposite semi-final round at 4 p.m. The winners will move on to the final, Saturday at 1pm. 

"I am so happy that our guys have been rewarded for their hard work and dedication this whole year," Head Coach Zach Shilvock expressed about earning the top seed for the tournament. "As a team, we set a clear vision of hosting the tournament here on our campus, and now we have given ourselves an awesome opportunity to win a Championship here on our home courts. Despite the great regular season, the post season sets us back to 0-0 and we have to earn the right to lift that trophy. Our guys are excited for that challenge!"
