Palmer Breaks Program Record in Shot Put, T&F Closes Out Semester at Nazareth

PITTSFORD, NY – The Houghton University track & field teams competed at Nazareth for their final meet of the Fall semester. In a lot of ways, it was a fantastic opportunity for power athletes to gain some rhythm in multiple competitions before leaving for the holiday. The meet highlighted regional powerhouse teams of SUNY Geneseo, RIT, Nazareth, St. John Fisher, University of Rochester, and several others. The highlight of the meet was graduate student Madison Palmer breaking the 18 year shot put record, held by Meghan Radimer. Palmer vaulted a throw of 11.82m, on her last attempt of the evening, to finish 3rd overall in the meet. Tori Brewster came away with her first win of her short collegiate career in the 60m with a time of 7.94. She bested the field by .06 seconds. For the men, Amos Bixler surged for a time of 2:37.21 for 3rd place in the meet. He threw down a great last lap of 31.69 to hold onto 3rd, in a competitive field.

The expectation is to keep up some good training over break, and come back ready for the heart of our indoor season. The goal in these last two meets was just get high level of confidence going into break, and that can carry training motivation pretty far. I think we accomplished that, and are ready for the next step."

The Highlanders will be back in action on 1/20 at their home invitational.
