Ogden Notches Milestone In Dramatic Win Over W&J

WASHINGTON, PA – With just over six minutes remaining on the clock, Adria Hartzler collected a rebound in front of the goal and deposited her second goal of the game into the back of the cage, breaking a 2-2 tie, and lifting the Houghton Highlanders past former Empire 8 foe, Washington & Jefferson, 3-2.

Cate Westenberger put the Highlanders on the board first, collecting her fifth goal of the season off Jace Hunzinger's 18th assist of the season.

The Presidents responded with a goal of their own in the 31st minute, countering a Houghton offensive attack, evening the score at one.

The two teams again traded goals, after Hartzler scored with only 12 seconds remaining in the third quarter, and W&J responded again less than four minutes later.

Less than two minutes later, a penalty in the circle gave the Presidents a penalty stroke.  With the game on the line, Houghton goalie Annika Galen shuffled quickly to her right, deflecting the shot with her shoulder, and essentially saving the game for the Highlanders.

NOTABLE STATS
>> Hunzinger picked up two assists on the day, the second of which established a new single-season Houghton single-season assist record, breaking the record that Hunzinger established only last season.  She now has 19 assists on the season and currently leads the NCAA Division III in assists per game (1.36).

>> Coach Hannah Ogden also reached a milestone with today's victory, moving into second place on the Highlanders' career board with her 68th win.  Ogden passed former Houghton coach and athletic director George Wells who had 67 wins in 12 seasons at the helm.  She now trails only legendary coach Donna Hornibrook (111 wins).

UP NEXT
The Highlanders return to Burke Field on Wednesday, October 25th, when they will host the Elmira Soaring Eagles.  Houghton has won the last eight meetings between the two teams, including a 3-0 victory last season.
