Box Score The Houghton University Women's Tennis Team relied upon its depth in a big conference win 6-3 over Utica Friday afternoon on the road. The win puts the Highlanders at 5-4 on the year and 2-1 in the E8.
The Second and third doubles pairing of Marilynn Amborski/Alexandria Leary and Arija Grant/Clancey Cockle would both come out victorious 8-1 and 8-4 respectively. Each and Swanson at the first flight would fall in a tight match 8-6.
In singles, the Highlanders would cruise to a match win with decisive wins from third through sixth singles. Amborski and Gariana Valentin were flawless with 6-0, 6-0 wins at third and fourth singles. Following right behind them, Leary and Grant would clinch the win with 6-0, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-1 victories.
"An awesome team effort today," Coach Shilvock said after the match. "Our top players fought hard, but didn't get the bounces today. It feels great to have our strong lineup depth shine today!"
Houghton will enjoy this victory and get right back on the court tomorrow afternoon against rival Alfred University at 1pm.
