The Houghton Women's Tennis Team traveled to Oneonta over the weekend, but were blanked by the home rivals of SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick.
On Friday afternoon, the Highlander's started the road trip off with an 8-1 defeat to SUNY Oneonta. The lone victory of the day came from the first doubles pairing of
Chloe Esch and
Elise Swanson with an 8-3 win. In singles, the Highlanders fought hard in multiple matches but could not come out on top.
On Saturday, Houghton would jump into conference match play against Hartwick. Despite all three doubles pairings playing well, the Highlanders could not find the scoreboard. Esch and Elise would battled hard at first losing 8-6 and the second and third flights of Amborski & Leary and Cockle & Grant would each fall 8-4 respectively. Houghton could not garner any success in singles play and would lose 9-0 at the end.
"Excellent play this weekend from two great opponents," Coach Shilvock said at the end of the weekend. "I don't think our team played bad by any means, but credit to our opponents for playing well. We will get back to practice and learn a lot from this weekend of play."
The Highlanders will get back into action this week with a full schedule of Empire 8 play starting Wednesday against Medaille.
