ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A total of 68 Houghton College student-athletes have been recognized by the Empire 8 Athletic Conference for their classroom performance during the spring 2022 semester.
These student-athletes maintained a 3.75 GPA or higher to earn a spot on the
E8 Presidents' List. The total represents 34 percent of Houghton's student-athletes.
They are among nearly 1,000 student-athletes from the league's nine full-time institutions to be recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.
Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference."
Houghton's department GPA was 3.31 for the 201 student-athletes competing during the spring semester. Twenty-five Houghton student-athletes achieved a 4.0 GPA during the fall, 103 had a GPA over 3.5, and 143 exceeded a GPA of 3.0.
"Our student-athletes continue to shine both on the field of play and in the classroom," said Houghton Director of Athletics
Matthew Webb. "The commitment they make in all areas of their lives, especially in their academic pursuits, is truly a reflection of their pursuit of excellence for the glory of God. I'm extremely proud of what they accomplished this semester."
Additionally, 12 Houghton teams earned a team GPA of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester.
