The Houghton College Men's Tennis team fell to non-conference foe Allegheny College 9-0 Tuesday afternoon. Despite the weather being beautiful for the first outdoor match of the year, the Highlander's could not pull through against a challenging opponent. The Allegheny Gators would sweep the doubles points with wins at first doubles 8-4 and 8-3 at the second and third flights. In singles play, they would keep their foot on the pedal finishing out the match sweep. The last match of the evening would be a tight one as Matthew Ciciero battled in a tight fourth singles affair. He would eventually fall 7-5, 6-3.
"I liked the way we competed today against a solid opponent," Coach Shilvock said after the conclusion of the match. "This was a good mid week test before we head into an important weekend of conference play."
With the loss, the Highlanders' fall to 4-10 (1-0 E8) on the year, but will look to bounce back with an away match against conference rival St. John Fisher in Rochester this Friday.
