Pittsford, NY – The track & field teams traveled to St. John Fisher College to compete in the Cardinal Classic. With two weeks to go until the Empire 8 Championships, many athletes were vying to break the top 16 of the Empire 8 performance list, and book their ticket to the championships. It was a day filled with personal best after personal best, and some surprise performances. Two athletes on the women's team tried new events, and easily booked their tickets to the E8 Championships! Maria Rodrigues and
Hannah Heinl tried the 100m and 400m, respectively. Rodrigues made the 100m final, and ran 13.23, which is #9 in program history, and 12
th in the E8 this year. Heinl ran 1:03.40, which is 13
th in the E8 this year.
Seth Greene led the men with 3
rd place in the 1500m run in 4:05.52. His mark is the top in the E8 this year, and #5 in school history!
Malachi Yeager had quite the day in the throws. He finished with Shot Put, Jav, and Discus marks that leave him 6
th, 6
th, and 9
th in the Empire 8.
Hayden Williamson continued her fantastic season with a win in the women's high jump and a new personal best of 1.60m. This is the top mark in the E8 this year, and #2 in program history. Ali Wisniewski had a great day, running a big personal best in the 100HH, and 400m. Her marks are #3 and #9 in program history, and both highly ranked in the E8.
"The weather co-operated well. Every time I watched an event there was a personal best, top E8 mark, or top 10 program performance happening. It was an exciting day for Houghton Track & Field. In less than two weeks, we will be sharp and ready for the Empire 8 Championships," commented Coach Hager.
The Highlander track & field teams will be in action on Saturday, 4/30 @ University of Rochester.
