The Houghton College Men's Tennis has continued it's extraordinary play in Empire 8 action with an 8-1 victory against St. John Fisher College. The win pushes the Highlanders' to 9-10 overall and 6-0 in E8 play. After a slow start yesterday, the Highlanders' came out ready to play grabbing all 3 doubles points to start the match.
Jaimie Staerkle and
Isaac Little (8-2) at first doubles,
Nolan Zach and
Levi Webb (8-3) at the second spot, and
Micah Schilke and
Adam Brown (8-0) at the third flight all secured decisive wins. In singles play, Schilke would grab a 6-1, 6-3 at the first singles position to get the Highlanders' on the board, and
Jaimie Staerkle would clinch the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at third singles. Other victories would come from
Levi Webb 7-5, 6-1,
Isaac Little 7-5, 6-4, and
Adam Brown 6-0, 6-1 at second, sixth, and fifth singles respectively.
"The men came to play today and really dominated play from start to finish," Head Coach
Zach Shilvock said post match. "I am particularly proud of
Adam Brown for a clinical performance, and
Levi Webb and
Nolan Zach for avenging their second doubles defeat this time around. Our team is finding their best form here late in the season, which is exactly what we want."
The Highlanders' will look to remain undefeated in conference play as they close out their regular season against Alfred U. on Tuesday and rival Nazareth College Saturday.
