The Houghton College Men's Tennis Team wrapped up their first round of conference play in undefeated fashion, after downing Alfred University 9-0 Wednesday afternoon. The Highlanders' would be dominate from start to finish only dropping 9 games the entire match.
The men would start fast with a sweep at doubles with wins from
Isaac Little and
Jaimie Staerkle (8-1),
Levi Webb and
Nolan Zach (8-2), and Miach Schilke and
Matt Cicero (8-0). Transitioning into singles, the Highlanders would be relentless.
Levi Webb,
Nolan Zach, and
Graham Cook would all come out victorious with 6-0, 6-0 scores at second, fourth, and sixth singles respectively. Wrapping up right behind them, Schilke and Staerkle would prevail with identical 6-2, 6-0 matches at first and third positions. Lastly,
Adam Brown would close his match at the fifth flight 6-0, 6-2.
"I challenged the men to play clean and quality tennis today, and boy did they deliver," Coach
Zach Shilvock said post match. "This was an outstanding team victory before heading into a well needed break. I am happy the guys get some downtime before we crank it up for conference matchups round two!"
The Highlanders', who move to 7-10 overall (4-0 E8), will rest up over Easter Break and head back into conference action away against Utica next Friday.
