The Houghton Women's Tennis Team grabbed a 6-3 victory against a depleted Penn State Behrend roster Tuesday afternoon. Houghton would start the match off with an automatic 2-0 lead with Behrend only playing with a roster of 5. The Highlanders would just need to grab 3 victories to clinch the match. The ladies would get off to a nice start with an 8-4 second doubles victory by
Marilynn Amborski and Allie Leary.
In singles play, the Highlanders would find more success taking wins at second, fourth, and fifth singles. At the second spot, Amborski would find her second win off the afternoon cruising 6-2, 6-2. Allie Leary would also snag her second victory of the afternoon, and her first ever collegiate win, 6-1, 7-5 at the fifth position. The final match of the evening would take place on court four as
Hialeah Johnson would battle back from a set down to win a dominate third set tie breaker 5-7, 6-3, 10-2.
"It was awesome to see some success out here for some of our younger and less experienced players," Coach
Zach Shilvock said. "Allie is one of our newest additions and to see her win twice and clinch the match was cool. I am proud of everyone on this team for bringing such a great work ethic this Spring. I am glad it paid off with a victory today."
The ladies will enjoy the win and will close out the Spring season with a home match against Allegheny College on April 5th.
