DELHI, NY – Carlee Miller posted a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) to lead the Houghton Highlanders to a season-opening victory over the SUNY Delhi Broncos, 66-36, on Tuesday night.
The Highlanders got off to a slow start, scoring only eight points in the first quarter and trailed after the first 10 minutes, 9-8. The next three quarters, however, would be a different story, as Houghton outscored Delhi by at least 10 points in each of the next three quarters.
Houghton's swarming defense forced 30 Delhi turnovers, including 24 steals by the Highlanders. Houghton converted those Bronco turnovers into 22 points.

COACH'S CORNER
"The group showed a lot of grit today. The reason we were able to win was because everyone has bought into playing for the person standing next to them. As a coach, that's very cool and unique to see, especially with such a young group.
"Hats off to our leadership core for all of their efforts on making a competitive and fun team culture to be around.
"Getting our first win of the season is nice, but we have a lot to clean up before our next game. We will get back to work tomorrow and be better because of this performance tonight. Go Highlanders!" – Head Coach
Phil Pellegrino
