Highlanders Pull Out Overtime Win at Canton

CANTON, NY – Emma Cole scored eight of the Houghton Highlanders 11 overtime points as they defeated the SUNY Canton Roos on Saturday evening, 66-57.
 
After Canton took a 34-28 lead into the half, Houghton recaptured the lead in the third, outscoring the Roos, 15-7. 
 
With just over three minutes to play, Abby Guiher nailed a three-pointer to put Houghton up by six points.  The Roos, however, battled back, and with 1:15 left on the clock, Joie Culkin hit a three of her own to tie the game.
 
Neither team would score in the remaining time, sending the game to overtime.
 
The final five minutes would belong to Cole and the Highlanders, as they outscored the hosts, 11-2, hitting 60 percent of their shots from the floor and allowing only a pair of free throws.

>> Cole finished her night with 16 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots, while teammate Carlee Miller posted 18 points and four rebounds.  The pair combined to shoot 15-of-26 (58%) from the floor.
 
>> Guiher added 11 points, while Iyana Knights pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
 
>> The Roos outrebounded the Highlanders, 55-44, while Houghton shot 12 percentage points higher (39%-to-27%) than Canton.
