HOUGHTON, NY— The Alfred Saxons overcame a five-point halftime deficit to defeat the Houghton Highlanders on Saturday afternoon, 61-47.
Houghton jumped out to a solid first half lead, pulling ahead by as many as eight points late in the second quarter on a layup by
Alexis Klohr. The Saxons, however, answered with a three-pointer by Leah Harkenrider seconds before the buzzer, trimming the Highlanders lead to five.
Houghton clung to the lead in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Saxons eventually peeled off an 8-0 run to pull ahead by five.
Michaella Roth hit a jumper seconds before the end of the third quarter to pull Houghton back within four points.
In the fourth Alfred took control of the game, outscoring the Highlanders, 17-7, and pulling away for good.
