ALFRED, NY – Houghton women's volleyball picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating the Cazenovia College Wildcats, 3-1, before falling to the host Alfred State College Pioneers in their second game, 3-0. 
 
After taking the first set handily, 25-18, the Wildcats battled back to win a close second set, 25-23.  Houghton, however, quickly regained their footing, winning the next two sets, 25-17, 25-17.
 
Alfred State remained unbeaten on the season, moving to 3-0 as they defeated the Highlanders in straight sets.

NOTABLE STATS
>> Haley Unverdorben dished out 39 assists in the first game, while also leading the Highlanders with 16 digs.  In the second game, Unverdorben added 19 assists.
 
>> Julie Immel posted 16 kills on the day, nine against Cazenovia and seven more against Alfred State. 
 
>> Allison Morgan established a new career high with 12 kills and 16 points against Cazenovia.    
 
UP NEXT
Houghton returns to the court September 17 and 18 at the Buffalo State College Tournament.  They will play the host Bengals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, before squaring off with Cazenovia at 11:00 a.m. and Medaille at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
