BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State Bengals (3-5) utilized an impressive attack on Friday afternoon to open their home tournament, defeating the Houghton Highlanders (1-3) in straight sets.
The Bengals collected 40 kills over three sets, committing only seven attack errors, good for a .402 attack percentage.
Down 22-12 in the first set, the Highlanders battled back, scoring eight of the next 10 points, but a kill by Angela Schichilone put the set away in the Bengals favor.
After Buffalo State took the second set, Houghton jumped out to an early 10-6 lead in the third. But the Bengals reeled off 10 of the next 11 points and never relinquished the lead again.
