Houghton, NY – The Houghton College Men's Soccer team dropped their home opener 1-0 to Grove City on Saturday Afternoon.
In the first half,
Oscar Palacios scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Although the Highlanders would have 6 shots on goal, this would prove to be the only goal on the night.
Grove City came out aggressively and this allowed Hunter Hardin to score an early goal to begin the second half. Although the Wolverines scored quickly, the rest of the game was a hard fought, scoreless battle. This back and forth would last until a penalty was called in favor of the Wolverines with less than 5 minutes left. This penalty led to a PK taken by Sam Belitz which he knocked in, giving Grove City a late 2-1 lead. The Highlanders would not be able to score in the final minutes of the game, securing the win for the Wolverines
With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 0-1-0 on the season.
