Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Women's soccer team took to the road Tuesday night and was able to get a 4-0 victory over Hilbert.
The Highlanders started the game very quickly with an early goal from Anna Hills in the 7th minute of the match, this was the first goal of her collegiate career. With the momentum from this goal favoring the Highlanders they took control of possession for most of the half and dominated Hilbert with shots, winning that battle 16-4 in the first half. Two more of those shots found the back of the net for Houghton; Sarah Potocki was able to score in the 30th minute of the match, followed quickly by her second goal of the match less than 7 minutes later. This gave the Highlanders a 3-0 lead going into the intermission.
The second half featured the Highlanders dominating possession and shots once again, they were able to get 10 shots to Hilbert's 2 in the second half. Although Houghton was able to shoot many times in this half, only one was able to find the back of the net. Sarah Patocki found her third goal of the match in the 72nd minute of the game, giving her a hat trick and the Highlanders a 4-0 lead which would go unchanged the rest of the competition.
With the win the Highlanders rise to 5-2-1 on the season and they will travel to St. John Fisher to resume Empire 8 play on Saturday.
