Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Women's soccer traveled to Rochester to battle with the Cardinals of St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon.
The first half of the match began with very minimal action, neither team was able to get on the board early as both teams tried to use their game plans to gain an advantage over the other. This continued until Fisher was able to find its first goal off the foot of Kyra Kenyon in the 36th minute of the half, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Kyra Kenyon followed this quickly with her second goal of the day just seconds before the half which gave St. John Fisher the 2-0 lead going into the intermission.
As the second half started Fisher began on the attack, allowing Kayla Rhude to find the back of the net off a corner kick les than five minutes into the half. About two minutes later Jennifer Kirker would follow this with a goal of her own, giving the Cardinals a 4-0 lead with 40 minutes left in the match. However, the Highlanders would not give up and continued to mount their attack which would result in a goal from Natalie Milne, putting Houghton on the board in the 58th minute. With a 4-1 lead, Fisher began to take control again finding three more goals in the match while the Highlanders were unable to find another goal, ultimately giving the Cardinals a 7-1 victory over Houghton.
With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 0-2-1 in Empire 8 play as they prepare for D'Youville on the road on Wednesday Night.
