HOUGHTON, NY – Less than 24 hours after Houghton field hockey head coach,
Hannah Ogden, welcomed her family's third child into the world, her team put the icing on the day's cake, defeating the Elmira Soaring Eagles, 6-0.
Peyton Bentley notched her first hat trick of the season, while Jace Hunzberger added two goals and an assist,
Sarah Retz collected a goal and two assists, and
Sofia Gildemeister earned her first shutout of the season.
Hunzinger opened the scoring in the fourth minute, receiving a slotted pass from Retz at the top of the circle, turning and firing a bullet past the keeper for her fourth goal of the season.
With less than two minutes to go in the first quarter, Hunzinger struck again on a combo pass from
Zoey Kasper and Bentley.
Bentley would score her first goal of the day in the 22
nd minute, and Houghton would go into the break up 3-0.
Retz and Bentley would each score a goal in the third quarter, and Bentley would pick up her third and final goal with just over seven minutes to play.
Gildemeister stopped three shots to earn her third win of the season.
