BROCKPORT, NY – Katelynn Melo capped a furious second-half comeback by the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles, scoring her second goal of the game with just over a minute remaining in regulation to defeat the Houghton Highlanders on Wednesday night, 3-2.
Houghton made the most of their opportunities in the first half, scoring a pair of goals on three shots, while limiting the Golden Eagles to only two shots.
Zoey Kasper gave the Highlanders the lead in the 15
th minute, depositing a pass from
Peyton Bentley in to the back of the cage.
Just over five minutes later
Bekah Davie scored her third goal of the season off a pass from
Deborah Cross to put Houghton up, 2-0.
Brockport found their offensive footing in the second half, getting off 10 shots and scoring all three of their goals in the final 21 minutes of play.
Mello scored the Golden Eagles first goal in the 40
th minute of play, and 14 minutes later Kayli Burr evened the score.
Finally, with only 1:04 left on the clock, Mello took a pass from Paige Thowe and slapped home the game-winner.
With only second remaining on the clock, Cross had a look at the cage, but her final shot sailed wide and the Highlanders ran out of time.
