Highlanders Pick Up Pair of Wins on Day Two of Buffalo State Tournament

BUFFALO, NY – The Houghton Highlanders pulled even at 3-3 on the season with a pair of wins over Cazenovia and Medaille on Saturday. 
 
The Highlanders rebounded from a loss to Buffalo State the previous evening with a straight-set win over the Wilcats in the opener.  Houghton then continued to roll in the second match, again winning in straight-sets.
 
Match #1 Recap:
Julie Immel posted 10 kills and Alyssa Lyon added nine more with only one attack error to lead a 38-kill Houghton attack. 
 
After edging the Wildcats in the first set, 25-21, the Highlanders elevated their level of play, limiting Cazenovia to only 28 points combined over the final two sets.
 
Haley Unverdorben collected 32 assists, while Lyon and Rebekah Clark tallied 12 digs apiece.
 
Match #2 Recap:
Houghton jumped out to an early lead in the first set and never looked back, winning each set by at least seven points.
 
The Highlanders posted their second highest totals of the season in kills (42), digs (53), and assists (41), all of which qualified as three-set bests for the team.
 
Allison Morgan posted a team-best 12 kills, while Immel and Lyon continued to hit well, collecting 11 and 10 kills apiece, respectively.
 
Unverdorben again dished out 32 assists, coupled with 11 digs.  Clark and Ella Smith led the defense with 12 and 13 digs apiece, respectively.
