BROCKPORT, N.Y. – In a match that was originally scheduled to be played in the Nielsen Center, the Houghton women's volleyball team dropped the season opener to the Brockport Golden Eagles in straight sets on the road.  Construction complications on Houghton's home court forced the game to Brockport, and the Golden Eagles took advantage. 

While the Highlanders battled the very end, and nearly pulled off wins in the first and third sets, the Golden Eagles won a dominant middle set and pulled out the bookends for the sweep.

KEY MOMENTS
>> With Houghton leading, 17-16, in the first set, the Golden Eagles reeled off five straight points—three on kills by Megan Loomis—to take a 21-17 lead.   
 
>> Brockport dominated the crucial second set, posting a .480 attack percentage, while collecting 14 kills and committing only two attack errors. 
 
>> While Houghton held a slim throughout the majority of the final set, the Golden Eagles rallied to score three straight points late, tying the game, 23-23.  After a Brockport attack error game the Highlanders set-point, the Golden Eagles again clicked off two points to earn set-point.  A kill from Haley Unverdorben tied the score again before two consecutive kills from Megan Muehlauer finished the match.
 
KEY STATS
>> Brockport's attack notched 44 kills and posted a .270 attack percentage, while the Highlanders collected 20 kills on a .034 attack percentage.
 
>> In her first match as a Highlander, Julie Immel collected a team-high eight kills on a 21 attacks.  Haley Unverdorben collected 17 assists, while Rebekah Clark led the team with 11 digs.
