Houghton Caps Off a Pair of Conference Wins on the Weekend with a 9-0 Victory Against Utica

The Houghton College Men's Tennis team continued their strong start to conference play with a decisive 9-0 victory over Utica College on Saturday afternoon. Coming off a win yesterday against strong conference opponent St. John Fisher, the Highlanders got off to a hot start grabbing a 3-0 lead after doubles. At first doubles Micah Schilke and Jake Fisler won 8-2, at second doubles Ethan Yung and Levi Webb prevailed 8-3, and Ben McKay and Adam Brown took the third spot 8-2, earning their first collegiate doubles wins in the process!

Houghton would not let up as they transitioned into singles play. The Highlander's would sweep the singles matches, with big wins coming from Ben Mckay 6-0, 6-1 at sixth singles, Micah Schilke 6-1, 6-1 at third to clinch the match, and Ethan Yung with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the second spot. Matt Cicero closed out the day with an impressive comeback at the fourth spot winning 3-6, 6-3, (10-6).

"It was a gorgeous day for tennis. The sun was shining, the guys came out with good energy today rolling off a big win yesterday, and for the most part they simply came in and got the job done. We saw some players make some really intentional adjustments in their matches to take advantage, and we were able to score wins all down the board including in all three exhibition matches. We're looking forward to getting some rest this weekend and then getting ready to hit the courts hard again next week - we've got a big one coming up."

Houghton will jump back into action next Wednesday when they take on conference opponent Alfred University, followed by DI St. Bonaventure Thursday and E8 team Nazareth on Saturday.
