ALFRED, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis improved its record to 3-3 overall and stayed perfect at 3-0 in the conference with a 7-2 road win over Alfred on Wednesday.

The Highlanders got 8-1 wins in first (Jake Fisler / Micah Schilke) and second (Ethan Yung / Levi Webb) doubles, with the third doubles tandem of Micah Christensen and Adam Brown coming up just short 7-8 (0-7) in third doubles.

Houghton then went 5-1 over the six singles matches. Jake Fisler pulled out the first Highlander win (6-2, 6-1) at second singles, followed closely by Matt Cicero with a 6-0, 6-3 win at fourth. Ethan Yung pulled out the clinching win with a comeback from a set down to win his match 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. 
 
With the team win secure, the remaining matches all proceeded to third set tiebreakers, with No. 3 (Schilke) and No. 5 (Christensen) converting wins. 
 
"It was a tougher day for the guys," said Head Coach Tonya McGraner. "We had a lot of close matches and really struggled to get our feet under us early on in singles matches. We had some sound wins in there, especially high in doubles, but overall we can do more to find our stride early on in singles."

Houghton is back in action when they host Nazareth in another E8 contest on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
