HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's lacrosse fell short in a hard fought battle in their 2021 home opener.
The Highlanders opened the scoring right from the first draw control when
Reegan Mitchell drove at the Elmira defense and was able to score. Elmira responded immediately with a goal from Kendra Heath. The Soaring Capitals wouldn't find themselves behind again in the game.  Elmira took an 8-3 lead into the half.
The second half started in the same way as the first with
Reegan Mitchell winning another draw control and driving right to goal to score. Mitchell ended the game with 3 goals and 4 successful draw controls. The highlanders would get to within 4 of Elmira midway through the second half but were unable to sustain the push and ultimately fell 13-7.
