Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Women's soccer team lost their Empire 8 matchup against Hartwick 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The first half started with immediate action from Hartwick with a goal in the 7th minute from Gianna Cacciola, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. This seemed to wake up the Highlanders and their defensive intensity, leading to a shut out for the rest of a half. Going into the half the Highlanders were trailing 1-0.
The Highlanders brought that same defensive intensity to begin the second half, keeping the Hawks off the board for an extended period of the second half. Even with this intensity, Hartwick was able to find a lone goal in the half from Julia Collado in the 64th minute, making the lead 2-0. The Highlanders had a tough time on the offensive side in the second half; they were unable to get a shot in the second half and ultimately the Highlanders fell 2-0 to Hartwick.
