Women's Soccer Drops Home Match Against Nazareth

Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Women's soccer team lost a tough game at home against Nazareth on Wednesday night.

As the match began, both teams came out strong and confident in their attempt to gain an advantage over the other. As the match went on, Nazareth was able to take control of possession for the game, keeping the ball on their side of the field for majority of the half. With possession in their favor, Nazareth was able to find two first half goals; Sydney Moss found the back of the net in the 6th minute and Maggie Hoey found the back of the net in the 38th minute. Houghton was unable to answer and went into the half with a 2-0 hole to climb out after the intermission.

The second half contained little action compared to the first, neither team seemed to get their feet under them as they mounted attacks. Nazareth was able to find a few shots which were wiped away by Merrifield to keep the Golden Flyers at two goals on the night. Houghton fought hard as the half went on to gain an opportunity to close the gap and then tie the game. However, their efforts would not be fruitful and ultimately Nazareth would leave Burke Field with a 2-0 victory over the Highlanders.

With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 5-6-1 as they prepare to play Keuka at home on Saturday afternoon.
