GENESEO, NY – The SUNY Geneseo Knights scored the game-winning goal just over 11 minutes into the contest, in route to a 6-0 win over the visiting Houghton Highlanders.
The Knights added a second goal just seconds before the close of the first quarter, during which the peppered the Houghton cage with 12 shots.
Sofia Gildemeister and the Highlander defense kept the Knights at bay throughout the second period, and the two teams went into halftime with Geneseo maintaining a 2-0 lead.
In the third quarter the Geneseo offense took off, scoring three additional goals to open up the game. The Knights would add a final goal in the 57
th minute of play.
Houghton's best scoring chance came with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Jace Hunzinger beat a defender and fired a shot toward the cage. The ball skidded past the goalie and wide off the far post.
Peyton Bentley made a diving attempt but just missed as the ball carried over the end line.
