Men's Soccer Loses Tough Match Against Rochester

Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Men's soccer team dropped their home game Saturday evening against University of Rochester by a score of 2-0.

The first half started with both teams trading possession of the ball while trying to create their advantage, this led to several shots quick shots early in the match, but none seemed to make it passed either teams goal keeper. This lasted until the 20th minute where the Tommy Nelson found the back of the net for the Yellowjackets, giving them 1-0 lead in the match. The rest of the half consisted of Houghton trying to tie the game and Rochester trying to expand their lead; neither was able to do so, leaving the game 1-0 at the half.

The second half began with Rochester getting on board in the 52nd minute of the match off the foot of Santi Ponce ocampo, making the lead now 2-0 in favor of the yellowjackets. As the hole deepened, the Highlanders dug deeper, playing hard and attempting to make the tides turn in their favor. This drive led to more shots for the highlanders and some great opportunities, but none were successful as the game clock expired and the Highlanders fell 2-0 to Rochester.

With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 6-10 on the season as they prepare to play at Nazareth Wednesday evening
