Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Men's soccer team suffered their first Empire 8 match Saturday afternoon to St. John Fisher with a score of 2-0.
The first half began quickly with a goal in the 4th minute of the match off the foot of Justin Bonetto. This got the Cardinals on a roll as they followed this with a goal 9 minutes later from Riley Rease, giving the cardinals a 2-0 lead. The rest of the half consisted of the Highlanders attempting to get on the board to dig themselves out of a 2-0 hole. While they were able to attempt three shots, they were not able to get on the board, ultimately going into the half down 2-0.
The second half was better for the Highlanders as they won the shot margin 6-3 in the half. Although Houghton was able to stop Fisher from gettiing shots while also creating their own, the Highlanders were not able to capitalize or close the gap. Ultimately the Highlanders fell to the Cardinals by a score of 2-0.
With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 4-1 in Empire 8 play as they prepare for Alfred on the road Wednesday Night. .
