HOUGHTON, N.Y. – An all-time-high 83 Houghton College student-athletes have been recognized by the Empire 8 Athletic Conference for their classroom performance during the spring 2020 semester.

These 83 Highlanders maintained a 3.75 GPA or higher to earn a spot on the E8 Presidents' List. It's the highest total since Houghton joined the Empire 8, besting the previous high of 75 set in the spring of 2017.
 
They are among 1,040 student-athletes from the conference to be recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.
 
Additionally, all 18 Houghton teams earned a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester and Houghton's spring department GPA was 3.46 for its 232 student-athletes.
 
"Once again our student athletes have demonstrated their excellence in the classroom," said Houghton Director of Athletics Matthew Webb. "We are proud of how they represent our institution competitively in their respective athletic venues, but also how they regularly excel in the classroom."
 
In addition to the GPA requirements, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

• 199 of 232 student-athletes had at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring term
• 125 student-athletes had a 3.5 GPA or higher
• 35 student-athletes finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA
