ROCHESTER, NY – Several Highlander track & field athletes competed at the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday. This conference includes teams from both the Mid-East and Atlantic Regionals, in an effort to create a competitive post-conference meet.
Shelby Langlois was the lone Highlander competitor on Friday evening. She was seeded 14
th in the 5,000m, and ran a tactical race to finish 7
th, in a lifetime PR of 18:30.98. The pace of the race went out extremely quick, and Shelby went straight to the back, knowing others would fade in the later stages of the race. This paid off, and Shelby surged through the field to finish on the podium.
"We had talked all season that this was her peak indoor race. We knew that'd take a lot of patience, but it was well worth it. Shelby is such a smart racer, and we had a great plan before the race, based on the history of this meet and how the distance races are run. It played out exactly how we thought, and she took advantage of that," Coach Hager remarked after the meet.
On Saturday,
Gwen Stokes led off with a 1.50m performance in the high jump. Next up,
Edena Sanchez and
Nathaniel Zedomi raced in the 400m. Edena finished just off her season best on 1:01.56, and Zedomi in 51.94. Both were 17
th in their respective races. The women's 4 x 200m of
Haley DeJager,
Gwen Stokes,
Edena Sanchez, and Ali Wisniewski ran 1:52.10, for a season best time, and good for 11
th place. The men's 4 x 200m had a great race going, but unfortunately the exchange between
Micah Williams and
Malachi Yeager resulted in Williams tripping, falling, and losing time. The team finished the raced.
That concludes the Highlanders indoor track & field season. They'll compete outdoor starting at Geneseo on 3/28.
