HOUGHTON, NY – The Highlander track & field teams hosted the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday. When the dust cleared, the women place 3
rd overall with 85 points, and the men 4
th overall with 53.5 points. St. John Fisher men's and women's teams won the competition. In the performance lists leading up to the meet, the women's team was projected to score 72 points, and the men's team projected to score 46. Both teams competed strong, and surpassed these projections. A highlight of the meet came in the last track event when
Micah Williams,
Daniel Burdo,
Aldo Rico, and
Nathaniel Zedomi broke the 4 x 400m school record, with a time of 3:27.06, just off regional qualifying.
Coach Hager remarked after the competition, "As the meet was going on, it was clear we were making up a good amount of points on our closest competition, Nazareth. We talked before the meet about not competing to your seed, but beyond it. As it wasn't a perfect meet for us, the energy was high, and I really appreciate their efforts. We've pushed this group more than we have in recent years, and that showed."
