ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis played strong against last year's E8 runners-up Nazareth before falling 6-3 on the road Wednesday.
The Highlanders got a win from
Catie Moore and
Elise Swanson in first doubles (8-6) and from
Erin Haley (1-6, 7-5, 6-3) in third singles and
Tessa Brown (7-6, 6-2) in fifth singles.
Alicia Cline and Haley battled to an 8-6 loss in second doubles, while Cline took her opponent to a third set before falling in fourth singles.
"The girls played great today," said Head Coach
Tonya McGraner. "Nazareth is top of the conference, so we are really happy with the wins we were able to get today. The ladies showed a lot of mental fortitude and grit during the match and I'm really proud of them for that."
Houghton (2-4, 1-1 E8) returns to action on Saturday, September 21 when they travel to Albany to take on Sage at noon.
