HOUGHTON, N.Y. --Â Forced to play a man down for 75 minutes, Houghton men's soccer lost to Geneseo, 2-1, in the team's home opener on Burke Field on Tuesday.
The teams played evenly throughout the first 15 minutes, but a red card on a foul outside the box put Houghton at 10 men. The Highlanders held tough and kept the Knights off the board until the 34th minute. A cross into the box got lost among a group of players before a Geneseo forward poked into the net at the far post. Houghton continued to battle and found the equalizer in the 43rd minute.
Nicholas D'Angelo sent a long pass ahead to
Daniel Bussey, and the senior chipped a shot over the keeper from 18 yards out.
The score would remain even for the next 18 minutes before the Knights found the winner on a looping header that was just out of reach of keeper
Caleb Loew.
