HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton women's basketball lost in conference play at home, 57-60, against the Gators of The Sage Colleges on Friday night.

Brittany Lenart would start the game off for the Highlanders with a 3 pointer 20 seconds into the game. The Gators wouldn't trail behind for long, putting 11 points on the board before the Highlanders would score again. Houghton would go into the second quarter down by 8, 10-18. The Highlanders and Gators would go back and forth during the second quarter, with the Highlanders leading by 9 with about 2:30 minutes to go. The Gators would close the gap to 3 points with a pair of 3 pointers, but the Highlanders would hold onto the lead going into halftime, 35-32.
The third quarter would find Houghton and Sage tied at 3 different points, with neither team up by more than 5 points. By the end, Houghton would trail behind Sage by 1, 49-50. The Highlanders would take back the lead early on in the fourth quarter, with a layup by
Madison Detwiler (assisted by
Amber Edwards), bringing the score to 51-50. With a little more than 3:30 left in the game, the Highlanders would be up by 4, 57-53. Ultimately, the Gators would close the gap and with a series of 3 free throws in the waning minutes of the game, claim the win.
