Mustangs Late Comeback Sinks Highlanders

HOUGHTON, NY—SUNY Morrisville's Alexis Campbell sank a layup with 48 seconds remaining to complete a fourth-quarter comeback victory over the Houghton Highlanders on Saturday, 68-65.

Six seconds earlier, Brooke Lewandowski put the Highlanders up by one with a layup of her own before Campbell's go-ahead bucket.  Fifty-one seconds later Campbell sank a pair of free throws after Houghton was forced to foul.

With one opportunity to tie the game remaining, Houghton called a timeout and advanced the ball.  Hannah Cybart came open off a screen and had a good look at the hoop, but her three-point shot rimmed out as time expired.

Houghton led by as many as six in the final quarter and held a 61-56 lead with 7:03 remaining in the game, but Morrisville outscored the Highlanders over the final minutes, 14-4.

Lewandowski finished with a double-double in her return to the women's basketball team.  The senior missed last night's opener against Westminster because she and the women's volleyball team competed in the Empire 8 volleyball tournament.

Cybart also finished with her first career double-double, posting career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (11).
