Highlanders Fall to Yellowjackets in Chuck Resler Tournament Opener

ROCHESTER, NY – The University of Rochester Yellowjackets picked up their second win of the season in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Women's Basketball Invitational on Friday night, defeating the Houghton Highlanders, 76-45.
 
The Yellowjackets jumped out an 18-6 lead after the first quarter.  Houghton cut the lead to 10 points within the first two minutes of the second, but Rochester surged in the final minutes, building a 23 point lead at the break.
 
Houghton's defense steadied in the second half, limiting the Yellowjackets to a 31 point field goal percentage in the final 20 minutes, but the Highlanders never found an offensive rhythm and could not gain ground.

NOTABLE STATS
>> While Rochester won the turnover battled, 16-to-22, the Yellowjackets converted their takeaways into 22 points, while Houghton managed only four points in the same category.
 
>> The Yellowjackets bench created the bulk of the Rochester offense, outscoring the Highlander reserves, 41-4.
 
>> With seven points on the evening, Brooke Lewandowski surpassed 1,000 points for her career.  The senior forward scored 850 points during her first two years at Davis College before transferring to Houghton prior to her junior year.  Her career total now stands at 1,005 points.  She also currently has 724 career rebounds.

>> Cori Beck paced the Highlanders with 11 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals.  Through three games this season the senior point guard is averaging 7.3 assists per game.
 
>> Hannah Cybart scored 12 points while Emie Taylor chipped in nine points, six rebounds and a blocked shot in only 18 minutes of play.
 
>> Alexis Stestric scored a game-high 23 points for the Yellowjackets.

The Highlanders return to Rochester tomorrow for the Consolation Game of the University of Rochester Chuck Resler Invitational Basketball Tournament.  They will play the Skidmore Thoroughbreds, who lost to the Baldwin Wallace Yellowjackets, 77-63, at 1:00 p.m.
