Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Westminster

HOUGHTON, NY— Emie Taylor's first career double-double was not enough to lift the Houghton Highlanders past the visiting Westminster Titans, as the Highlander dropped the season opener, 64-41.

Taylor led the Highlanders with 14 points and 15 rebounds, but Houghton shot only 23.6 percent from the floor.  The Titans shot 38.5 percent and sank five more threes than the Highlanders.

Westminster led by only two points after the first quarter, but outscored Houghton, 32-11, over the next 20 minutes.

While the Titans edged the Highlanders by only two points in the final quarter, the lead built in the middle of the game proved insurmountable.

COACH'S CORNER
"We never really settled into our offense tonight.  We've had some players missing, some new players, and we've changed a few things to try to open up the floor, and we just didn't seem comfortable creating space tonight.

"I saw some good things from Emie [Taylor] and Alexis [Klohr].  I'm confident we will continue to get better as the season progresses, and I'm looking forward to competing again tomorrow afternoon." –Coach Alicia Mucher
