Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Late Heroics Lift Houghton Past Sage

HOUGHTON, NYCaitlin Jennings scored twice in the final 1:30 to help Houghton field hockey to a 3-2 win over Sage in Empire 8 action Saturday on Burke Field.

The win keeps Houghton's Empire 8 post-season chances alive.

Houghton outshot the Gators 8-1 in the first half and controlled the majority of play. Freshman Katherine Manley scored in the 24th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Houghton continued to have the game in their hands, but the Gators found an opening and put their first score on the board in the 45th minute, then took the lead with another tally just six minutes later.

As the clocked ticked away, the Highlanders turned away three-straight penalty corners and then transitioned to the attack. Grace McBride sent a pass to Jennings in the middle, and the junior rifled a low 10 yard shot past the keeper. After the faceoff, the urgency continued, and Houghton earned a corner with 31 seconds left. Zoey Kasper started the play to Hannah Daniels, who centered to Jennings for the game-winner with 21 seconds on the clock.
