Women's Hoops Soar Above Elmira

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton women's basketball took another win at home Tuesday night, 64-56, against the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College.

The Highlanders would set the tone for the game with a layup by Brittany Lenart, assisted by Hannah Haskell, within the first 4 seconds of the game. Houghton would go on to score 8 more points before Elmira would put one through the net. Going into halftime, the Highlanders led 33-24, ending out the second period with an 8-3 run.

Coming back into the second half, the Highlanders would storm the court with 3 layups within the first 2 minutes. They led by 16 after three and would push the lead to 19 early in the fourth. The Soaring Eagles, however, would not go away and outscored the hosts 20-12 in the final quarter behind the strong play of Lindsey Heaton, who scored 15 of her game-high 30 over the final 10 minutes.

NOTABLE STATS

> The Highlanders shot 49.1% from the field (27-55) and were a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. The Soaring Eagles shot 39.3% (22-56) and, but knocked down 6-of-14 (42.9%) from long range.

Emily Swanson led the Highlanders in points, for the second game in a row, putting 14 on the board. Leslie Swanson finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brittnay Lenart was the third Highlander in double figures with 12 points while adding five assists. Freshman Hannah Haskell produced six points, six assists and eight rebounds.

> Houghton is now 7-2 in the Nielsen Center this season.
