Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis evened its overall and conference records to 1-1 on the season as they defeated The Sage Colleges, 8-1, on Saturday.

It was the first career head coaching victory for first-year coach Tonya McGraner.

"The ladies did a fantastic job today. They were focused, they developed strategy, and they executed," said McGraner. "I couldn't be happier about this being the first win of the season for us! There were a lot of adverse conditions today, including travel issues yesterday and tricky weather conditions, that could have been very distracting. But the girls stayed mentally tough and pulled off a great win."

Also getting their first wins were freshmen Erin Haley and Tessa Brown, who teamed to win third doubles and also got wins in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Highlanders won all six singles competitions, with wins going to Tori Noller, Kaylee Jentsch, Amanda Carl, Catie Moore, Haley and Brown.

Houghton returns to action to face Fredonia on the road on Wednesday, September 12 at 4 p.m.
