Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Highlanders Fall to #12 Rochester

HOUGHTON, NY – Sarah Olandt saved 11 shots in the cage, but the #12-ranked University of Rochester Yellowjackets scored two second-half goals to defeat the Houghton Highlanders, 2-0.

Olandt and a stingy Highlanders defense held the high-powered Jellowjacket offense, which had scored 11 goals in their previous two games, scoreless throughout the first half.

Rochester finally found the back of the cage in the 38th minute after a quick cross from the left side and a one-time shot.

Houghton's best opportunity to tie came 10 minutes later when Caitlin Jennings received a cross at the top of the circle, dribbled right and ripped a shot that the Rochester keeper deflected with her pads.

The Yellowjackets would add an insurance goal in the 67th minute and hold off the Highlander attack to secure the victory.

COACH'S CORNER
"I was happy with the way the girls responded to the great competition U of R brought today.  We played a great defensive game, with especially great games from our back three and our goalkeeper.

"I've yet to see the girls this disciplined throughout a full 70 minute game.  I'm excited to see this kind of play continue to develop in the upcoming weeks." -Head Coach Hannah Ogden
