HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton women's soccer remains winless in conference play after a 3-2 loss to Utica at Burke Field on Saturday.
Houghton found the net first when
Kealy DeForest scored off an assist from
Jessica Beattie in the 37th minute. DeForest touched the ball past the keeper and made a tight angle shot from the endline to get the ball into the goal. The Highlanders took that 1-0 lead into the locker room, but the Pioneers scored twice in the three-minute span to go up 2-1. DeForest scored her team-leading eighth of the year, following a hard shot from
Meagan Barry that bounced off the keeper. But Utica got the winner in the 75th minute to stay undefeated in Empire 8 action.

"I thought we played well in the first half and had good momentum as we entered the second half. Early in the second half, we made a costly defensive error that led to their first goal, shifting the momentum to Utica and they capitalized on their next scoring opportunities. It's a tough loss." --
