ALFRED, NY— The Houghton women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision in conference action to Alfred University on Wednesday night at Yunevich Stadium.
Alfred's win marks the first time Houghton has lost to Alfred University since 1993. The Highlanders had beaten the Saxons eight straight times before tying them in 2017.
Alfred University was quick out of the gate, getting four opportunities to score before getting a notch on the scoreboard. The Saxons would continue to put the pressure on the Highlanders, with Alfred firing eight shots in the first half.
Coming back on to the field, Alfred would collect an insurance goal at the 67
th minute. Houghton created opportunity at the end, taking three shots in the last 10 minutes of play, but it wasn't enough to steal the game.
